Charcoal Charcoal 5 High Performance Window Film

Klingshield Technical Department
Johannesburg South Africa July 2010

This is a premium window film with a combination of a tinted dyed reflective laminated to a reflective film and the metallised film is laminated on the inside during manufacture.

These films are known as “hybrid” films because of the mixture of the dyed and reflective film. These high performance films perform better than non reflective films and are more complicated to manufacture and generally more expensive than non reflective films. They are also slightly lighter when viewed from the inside than standard 5% non reflective tinted films

If an area calls for high glare rejection as well as high heat rejection, this is the ideal product. This product is normally used in computer rooms and other areas where heat is a problem in commercial environments.

Data Spec on Charcoal Charcoal 5 High Performance

Visible light transmitted 8%
Visible light is the ratio of amount of visible solar energy that is allowed to pass through the glazing system.
Visible light reflected 8%
Visible light reflection is the fraction of solar radiation that is reflected by the glazing system that can be seen visually.
Total solar energy transmitted 21%This is the ratio of the total amount of solar energy of the full solar wavelength range that is allowed to pass through the glazing system.Total solar energy reflected 17%
The total solar energy reflectance is the ratio of total solar energy which is reflected outward by the glazing system to the amount of solar energy falling on the glazing system.
Total solar energy absorbed 16%
Total solar energy absorption is the amount of total solar energy absorbed by the glazing system to the amount of total solar energy falling on the glazing system.
U Factor 1.07
The U factor is the overall heat transfer co-efficient of the glazing material.
Shading co-efficient .45
Shading co-efficient is a measurement used by Engineers to evaluate the overall performance of the glazing material.
Ultra Violet Transmittance 1%
Ultra Violet transmittance is one portion of the total solar energy spectrum which greatly contributes to fading and deterioration of fabrics and furnishings.
Total Solar Energy Rejected 62%

62% of total solar energy rejected is a very efficient film. Total solar energy rejected is the amount of total solar energy of the full solar wavelength that is rejected by the glazing system.
All specifications have been measured in accordance with AIMCAL and ASHRAE Standards.
